Whitefield Highland Ponies

(First, Second and Third Prize Brood Mares Royal Highland Show 2007)
Whitefield Highland Pony Stud was founded in 1962 by the late George M Baird and built up over the years, with selected bloodlines, to a peak in numbers of 140 ponies. In one year alone 40 foals were born. Sons, Sandy & Alan joined their father in the business in 1980 and now run the stud along similar lines.
The stud has been very successful in both breeding and showing, having won the Royal Highland & Breed Shows a number of times. We have also been the breeders of Champions shown by others. In 2005, at the Royal Highland Show, the overall Champion & Reserve, as well as the Reserve Female were all out of Whitefield mares and by stallions from three different studs. This demonstrates that Whitefield lines can produce winners when mixed with other bloodlines. Following on from this, the stud had a particularly successful 2007 campaign being Breed Show In-hand Champion with Heather Honey of Whitefield and Reserve Overall and Female Champion at the Royal Highland Show with Gloria of Whitefield. Being breeders, it was particularly pleasing to have the first three prizes in the Brood mare class and the first two prizes in the foal class at the Royal Highland. This was followed by the first prize brood mare and Champion foal at the Breed Show. In 2008 the first three brood mares were again Whitefield, with Islay of Whitefield the Overall Supreme Champion.
